This artwork embodies the intersection of play and learning, reflecting the essence of my Twilight Language—a unique script blending Hindi, English, and Gujarati symbols in reference to dyslexia. Trace serves as a tactile exploration of memory and communication, highlighting the complexities of language. Inspired by childhood experiences of using stencils to write and her observations of dementia patients whilst caring for them, Shah notes how both children and elderly, playfully navigate language through the process of learning and unlearning societal expectations.
The stencil's substantial size makes it impractical for conventional use, which speaks to the challenges of modern languages in a world with accents, language barriers, and neurodiversity. Underscoring how language can both connect and isolate individuals.
